Rang De Basanti by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is a film that cannot possibly be made again — and if it does, it surely cannot be released in today’s climate. It shakes us, makes us laugh, and quietly leaves us hollow. Drawing from the legacy of Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sukhdev, Ashfaqullah, and Bismil, it questions our ignorance and our politics.
This edit captures one of the fleeting moments of joy in the film, paired with Van Gogh’s Farmhouse in a Wheat Field. There’s a strange harmony between the painting’s serenity and the film’s heartbreak.
